Landscape Painting in the Gardens

Saturday, October 23, 2021

9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Instructor: LIsa Ikegami

In this 3- hour introductory class, you will learn the basics of sketching and painting landscape “en plein air” within the beautiful paradise of Leu Gardens. Fine artist and illustrator Lisa Ikegami will share her techniques for quick scene capture: taking in the magic of the nature within and around you, and how to use pencil and watercolor paint to express your new way of seeing. You will leave with a greater understanding of how easy it can be to simply let yourself create without judgement, and you’ll be well on your way to completing a sketchbook full of “there are no mistakes”, glorious, personal reflective art.

Lisa Ikegami

Lisa Ikegami was mentored as a child by her father, who took her out to the boat docks and parks, teaching her the fine art of “drawing without an eraser.” She holds a master’s degree from the University of Florida in Architecture, with a focus on design. After working in commercial architecture for 20 years, she shifted gears to focus on fine art, and writing and illustrating children’s literature.

Much of Lisa’s work speaks on nature and its processes, and the exterior spatial environment. She uses a variety of media, and often a mix of media. Her most recent collection of work has garnered a lot of attention throughout Central Florida and has been showcased in many venues, including the Polasek Museum, the Orlando Museum of Art, the Orlando Fringe Festival and Faith Arts Village Orlando.

An active member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Lisa’s first book, "A Blanket Quite Rare", was released in May 2015. She recently collaborated with the International Suzuki Teachers Exchange to design and illustrate materials for a project for educating very young violin students. She’s currently writing and illustrating picture books and focusing on a new body of work in watercolor and mixed media.

Lisa is always in search of seeing the world through a child’s eyes, the eyes her father taught her to see with. You will often see her painting and sketching in the gardens. Most likely, without an eraser.
