About this Event
We're turning 10!!!
Please join us Saturday, June 16th in Morningside Park lower level between 113th and 114th streets for a free outdoor event to thank you for ten incredible years!
From 10a-11a Land Yoga student Timothy Lewis will lead us in an introduction to Capoeira, an ancient Afro-Brazilian martial art originating in the 16th century which is believed to have been created by enslaved Africans taken to Brazil by Portuguese colonists. Much like yoga capoeira infuses various parts into one essence. As a unique martial art, capoeira blends aspects of music, dance, acrobatics, and self-defense into one union.
Graduado Cuidadoso has been training since 2011, and teaching since 2016 as a member of Abadá Capoeira under the guidance of Professor Côco. He has trained throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe, and Brazil while actively participating in competition on local and international levels. In this class we will explore the essence of capoeira in a beginner-friendly approach that is open to all ages and skill level. Participants can expect to learn some of the unique history of capoeira and basic movements associated with this ancient art form. No prior experience necessary.
From 11a-12p Lara and Dana will lead an all levels Ashtanga Yoga class with some gentle Pranayama and short talk on yoga in daily life. Please bring your own mat.
Bring your lunch and stay for a post class celebration with give aways and our May Attendance Challenge winner announcement.
