Workshop attendees will be guided through techniques for stewardship and relationship building with the land through basket making. Baskets will be made from invasive vines and plants found on the property and woven into practical structures. Participants will learn how to root their artistic practice into a reciprocal relationship with the land and how art making can help control displaced species without chemical intervention. These artistic practices will be rooted in the historical context of the people whose land is now the modern United States, how plants were historically used, and how people can engage with their own ancestral practices respectfully.
Attire: sturdy boots, water, snacks, basket/bag. Optional: work or garden gloves, small garden shears (the handheld ones)
This workshop is intended for ages 13 and up.
