Land of the Free, Home of the Brave: The music that shaped America

Following the success of last year's "Songs of America" program presented at Park Hall in Sauk City, the public is invited to a second edition, "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave: the music that shaped America". The free concert of patriotic and protest music will be on Friday, September 18 at 7 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 615 Broadway St, Baraboo, WI. The musical trek across United States history in times of peace and times of war will be highlighted with excerpts of inspiring quotations. Local musicians and readers will perform the musical pieces and readings.
The concert is a collaborative effort supported by the First United Methodist Church, Indivisible Baraboo, Indivisible Sauk Prairie, and Reedsburg Area Concerned Citizens.
“One of our most powerful forms of free speech is music,” said Gretchen Roltgen, producer and director of the concert. “The music of patriotism is inevitably the music of protest. We will hear the music—in a variety of styles—that has encouraged us through changing times, held us together in times of tragedy, expressed our desire for justice, and united us in triumph. In spoken and sung word, we are reminded where we’ve been, who we are, and what we can become.”

Doors open at 6:30 pm. Refreshments will be available for a freewill offering.
