En s'appuyant sur des archives architecturales, sur l'histoire de la médecine et sur les propres voyages de l'auteur, Terra Infecta révèle les réalités vécues des grands projets, retrace l'histoire de communautés disparues, d'organisations collectives et de résistances oubliées.

Andrea Bagnato est architecte et écrivain. Il a organisé des expositions, enseigné et donné de nombreuses conférences, et publié des ouvrages. Travaillant à la fois de manière indépendante et pour des institutions culturelles, ses réflexions portent sur les politiques de la santé, de la maladie et de la contamination, ainsi que sur l'impact que différentes conceptions du corps ont sur l'espace qui nous entoure. Il a été chercheur boursier au CCA en 2023.

In Terra Infecta, Bagnato shows how the modern quest for sanitation shaped Italy’s urban and rural landscapes, propelling major transformations from the draining of the wetlands around Venice, to demolitions and replanning in Naples, to the expulsion of the inhabitants of ancient Matera. Drawing on architectural records, medical history, and the author’s own travels, Terra Infecta reveals the lived realities of grand schemes, traces of vanished communities, and forgotten histories of collective organisation and resistance.

This event is free of charge and will be presented in English.

Andrea Bagnato is an architect and writer. He has curated exhibitions, taught and lectured widely, and published books. Working both independently and for cultural institutions, his thinking is concerned with the politics of health, illness and contamination, and with the impact that different conceptions of the body have on the space around us. He was a CCA research fellow in 2023.
