A pleasant 7.7m/12.4k walk mostly along a good towpath.
We'll meet outside Carnforth Station at 10am. We'll walk along the Lancaster Canal to Hest Bank where there is a canalside pub for lunch, and also a railway-themed microbar next to Morecambe Bay, although you can bring a packed lunch if you prefer.
Then we'll continue along the canal, leaving it near Torrisholme to walk through some woods and a park and past Lancaster Castle to Lancaster Station. (If we want, we could extend the walk by 1.3m/2.1k, by staying on the canal to take in the iconic Lune Aqueduct and Lancaster town centre instead.)
We should get to Lancaster Station between 3pm and 5pm. There is a very nice station bar there, as well as a Costa Coffee shop.
About the Walk Leader.
I'm Mary Austin, I'm fairly local to this walk, and I'm a very active walker of Slow Ways, normally travelling by train to the start, and from the end of the routes. I'm very experienced at plotting routes, planning lunch stops, checking transport, and guiding others in following the correct route, although I don't have any formal qualification.
