To celebrate the opening of Lalaga: Le Hui Fono, join artists and the Lalaga Youth Ambassadors for a day of talanoa, reflecting on the exchanges and relationships that have been central to the Lalaga project, processes of learning and collaboration, and aspirations for the future.

Itāmua Muaiāoomālō Mataiva D Robertson and Kim Kahu share their knowledge of weaving processes, materials, and forms, and reflect upon long standing connections between Tagata Moana and Tangata Whenua and future possibilities.

Beneath the canopy of a heritage ngatu launima, on public display for the first time in three decades, the Ngāmotu Ngatu Artists (Kesaia Biuvanua, Amy Sao Tui, Suzan Kostanich, Ruha Fifita and Theresa Tongi), Tau‘ili‘ili Alpha Maiava (Mahi Moana) and Tu‘ifonualava Kaivelata, ‘Uluakimaka Haivelata (Hikule‘o’o Ono‘aho) share on Tagata Moana cultural revival and preservation, the role of ancestral knowledge and practice in contemporary creative inquiry, and relationships between Moana visual and aural artforms.

Join Seleka International Arts Society Initiative, Haoro Hond, and Sean Hill as they kōrero beneath their newly realised mural, gathering learnings from their time spent together at Parihaka and in Tonga, and the artists’ experiences working to collaborate with and empower young people.
