Homechool Lagoon Explorers Program - Grades 1 - 6
Aspiring scientists can join the Marine Resources Council’s monthly Lagoon Explorers program to dive deeper into the natural world, the process of scientific inquiry, and what makes Florida’s environments so special. Each month, the Lagoon Explorers will examine a new subject, ranging from water quality to ecology to marine biology.
The two-hour lesson will feature an introduction, an outdoor observational opportunity (weather permitting), hands-on laboratory exploration, and an opportunity for discussion. Lagoon Explorers will take place on the first Wednesday of every month from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Each lesson is $15 per student, payable by cash, card, or check. Registrants must confirm registration five days prior to the program date.
NOTE: Any student - not just homeschool students - can join during Lagoon Explorers summer programming.
June 3rd Lagoon Explorers Theme - Salinity
June's Lagoon Explorers will learn more about salinity and what that means for the Indian River Lagoon. Students will use a refractometer to measure the salinity of the Indian River Lagoon and experiment with finding the ideal salt for mangroves.
Cancellation Policy
Registration must be received five business days prior to the program date. Cancellation and transfer fees apply.
Classes must receive a minimum number of participants for the program to occur. If a minimum number of participants is not reached by the final registration date (five days before), the Marine Resources Council will cancel.
We reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. If a class must be canceled for any reason, we will notify you five business days prior to the lesson. You will be eligible for a refund or may transfer your registration to the next month.
