About this Event
Mere weeks into his grand tour of the United States, Lafayette arrived in Boston at the end of August 1824. Traveling north from Providence, Rhode Island, he arrived in the middle of the night at the house of Massachusetts Governor William Eustis on August 24, 1824, where he rested for several hours before resuming his journey towards Boston.
This event commemorates the significance of Lafayette's overnight stop in Roxbury on August 24, 1824, and is held in partnership with The Lafayette Trail, Inc. The historical marker is generously sponsored by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.
The dedication ceremony for this new marker will take place as part of a Lafayette 250 function honoring Lafayette's contributions to American freedom as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
