Lady Bird Lake / Colorado River - Saturday Afternoon Walk & Tour (FREE)

Saturday, May 3 - 12:00 pm. All are welcome.

Meeting Point: In front of Café at the Lauren: 1211 West Riverside Drive - Austin.

Meet people, see beautiful Austin scenery, get some steps in, and have fun!

Join Robert, Michele, and a group of friendly people for a casual walk around Lady Bird Lake and the Colorado River.

Lady Bird Lake is a river-like reservoir on the Colorado River in Austin, Texas. The City of Austin created the reservoir in 1960 as a cooling pond for a new city power plant. The lake, which has a surface area of 416 acres (168 ha), is now used primarily for recreation and flood control. The reservoir is named in honor of former First Lady of the United States Lady Bird Johnson.

Lady Bird Lake is the easternmost lake of a chain of reservoirs on the river, which is completely located in Texas, and should not be confused with the larger Colorado River located in the Southwestern United States. This chain, known locally as the Texas Highland Lakes, also includes Lake Buchanan, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls, Lake Travis, and Lake Austin.

The Colorado River is an approximately 862-mile-long (1,387 km) river in the U.S. state of Texas. It is the 11th longest river in the United States and the longest river with both its source and its mouth within Texas.

Its drainage basin and some of its usually dry tributaries extend into New Mexico. It flows generally southeast from Dawson County through Ballinger, Marble Falls, Lago Vista, Austin, Bastrop, Smithville, La Grange, Columbus, Wharton, and Bay City, before emptying into the Gulf of Mexico at Matagorda Bay.
