Featuring an exciting lineup of talent, Rudy’s Jazz Room's "Ladies of Jazz" showcase presents Nashville's favorite female vocalists collaborating together, displaying a variety of original and distinct vocal talent, backed by some of Nashville’s best and well known musicians.
Wendy Burns
Creator and producer of The Ladies Of Jazz Show, a 4 year running show at Rudy’s Jazz Room.
2024 NIMA award Best Jazz Vocalist / 2022 Inducted member Nashville Academy of Local Musicians Hall of Fame /and 2023 Mississippi Music Foundation Award winner for Best Female Jazz Artist, Flute playing jazz vocalist, Wendy Burns of Nashville TN, has studied and performed songs from the 1940's Jazz Big Band era since the age of 9 years old. She has been described as having a unique voice that fits the era. She has performed at the Grand Ole Opry and has sessioned and performed with many of the Nashville classic country greats. With a deep passion for jazz standards, and as a hopeless romantic, Wendy believes there's beauty in staying true to the melodies as they were written.
"She expertly delivers jazz vocals in traditional speakeasy style and displays her exceptional talent on flute as well. She does an excellent job, a true entertainer, she holds her audience and has them laughing with her patter between songs." - Gary Cobb, Nashville Tn
Roz Thompson
Roz Clark-Thompson is a versatile vocalist who has been reviewed as "A gusty songstress loaded with soul, savvy and style. Roz performed the Tony Award-winning role of 'Aunt Em' and 'Glenda the Good Witch Of The South' in the Broadway musical 'The Wiz'". She has been the opening act for the Smothers Brothers, Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Reno. Roz has recorded with CeCe Winans, Donna Summer, 4Him. She has toured the world with legends, Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck and Olivia Newton John. Roz has been guest artist on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson several times as well as The Merv Griffin Show. Roz - "A real stunner, an amazingly versatile talent."
Ellen Musick
(Yes, the last name is real) Ellen grew up in Nashville, making her a true Music City unicorn. She was published in the Nashville Scene's You're So Nashville If for the entry "You're so Nashville if...you napped on the pews of the Ryman as a kid, met your husband singing BGVs on a Jimmy Dean session, and still close down Robert's Western World every Saturday night!"
Although more likely to close down the second set at Rudy’s these days, Ellen is gratefully (and quite nervously) coming out of her 20 year retirement from singing to join Wendy Burn's Ladies of Jazz. Ellen's thirty year music career included a decade of singing with the band Fifth Avenue, a Glenn Miller style 13 piece orchestra with four singers. Fifth Avenue performed extensively in Nashville and nationally, and headlined the very first July 4th celebration in Nashville at the newly opened Riverfront Park in 1983. Another Nashville first, Ellen was a part of the Bridgestone Arena’s inaugural event, singing backup for Amy Grant at the arena’s very first concert. Her recording credits include providing vocals for Glen Campbell, Donna Summer, Michael Crawford, Amy Grant, Michael Martin Murphy, Sandy Patti, Michael W. Smith, Wintley Phipps, Andy Griffith, etc. Ellen has also provided vocals for television shows, performed in industrial shows, recorded for many cruise ship lines, and has sung on hundreds of jingles. Ellen received a degree in Vocal Performance from Belmont University in 1977 and returned to Belmont in 2005 to earn a BSN in Nursing.
