Take your first steps with bobbin lacemaking, now officially classed as an Endangered Craft on the 2025 Heritage Crafts Red List. The workshop will open with a brief history of lace and lacemaking before you get started with the basic bobbin lace stitches, which you will then use to create either a flower brooch / corsage or bookmark using recycled and repurposed threads. Examples of lace from the Ferens collection will also be available to view.
No experience or equipment needed, just a love of making, textiles, or a desire to keep this endangered heritage craft alive.
You will:
• receive step-by-step guidance to learn the basic bobbin lace stitches and techniques at your own pace
• receive a pattern template and access to resources to support you beyond the workshop
• meet other crafters in an inclusive, friendly and welcoming space. Come on your own or bring a friend!
• have time away to learn, relax and be mindfully absorbed in a creative activity
• be able to take away your work.
The workshop is run by Catherine Lillie – lacemaker, educator and Trustee for Heritage Crafts.
All resources are provided This event takes place from 10:15am - 3:45pm. There will be a break for lunch.
Cost £69 (includes £4 booking fee)
