About this Event
La Típica is a contemporary flamenco company exploring the diversity of styles that make modern flamenco. The group has been established for over a decade, having toured the UK, France, Chile and Spain. This year featuring special guest dancer, Cathy Sandoval.
La Típica is led by Natalia García Huidobro, a dancer, choreographer and teacher who divides her time between Madrid and her native Chile. Natalia trained with Mercedes Amaya ‘La Winy’, niece of the legendary flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya. She has performed in many of the famous flamenco tablaos in Madrid, as well as in Chile, Argentina, Russia, Japan and the UK, including at Sadler’s Wells.
Since forming La Típica dance company Natalia has collaborated with theatre and cinema artists such as Lemi Ponifasio and Rodrigo Bazaes. Her recent contemporary dance and musical project, 'El Arrebato' was very well reviewed in Spain and South America.
Adrián Solá, a specialist in Flamenco guitar, has been perfecting his craft to curate a repertoire of essential masterpieces from the Flamenco guitar tradition. Born in Barcelona, Adrian’s musical journey began at an early age, displaying a keen interest in diverse musical genres. At the age of 12, he borrowed his father’s guitar, initially as a hobby, which soon evolved into a passionate pursuit. As a teenager, he enrolled at The Modern Music School of Badalona, where he embarked on a comprehensive exploration of musical language, harmony, jazz flute, and Flamenco guitar, ultimately shaping his path as an accomplished and sought-after accompanist for Flamenco dance and singing traditions.
Mónica García, originally from Frailes (Jaen) and now based in London, discovered her passion for singing at a young age, inspired by her grandfather Luis. Self-taught in music, Monica has flourished into a seasoned performer collaborating with highly acclaimed musicians, dancers, and singers. She has performed at renowned venues including Jazz Café in London and Playhouse in Salisbury, where she continues to captivate audiences with her soulful voice and captivating performances.
Cathy Sandoval is an acclaimed flamenco dancer and teacher who divides her time between Santiago de Chile and her native Montreal. She is currently a flamenco teacher at the Plazuela flamenco school in Chile.
