👉 La symphonie du Donbas (Simfoniya Donbassa) - film de 1930 réalisé par Dziga Vertov (russe avec sous-titres anglais), tourné en 35 mm
Cette projection sera présentée par le Club Ukrainien de Montréal.
Célèbre pour son film L'homme à la caméra (1929), Dziga Vertov capture ici différents aspects de la vie dans la région du Donbas, située dans l'est de l'Ukraine. Peu après la sortie du film, cette région a été durement touchée par la grande famine (Holodomor) de 1931 et 1932, une tragédie qui a causé la mort de millions de personnes. En 2014, la région a été occupée par des séparatistes armés soutenus par la Russie, déclenchant une guerre qui se poursuit encore aujourd'hui. Bien qu'Enthusiasm ait été conçu comme un outil de propagande en faveur de la collectivisation agricole et de l'industrialisation forcées, Vertov, consciemment ou non, y a inclus de nombreuses images qui remettaient subtilement en question l'autorité du régime. À travers un montage étonnant de sons et d'images industriels, Vertov compose une «symphonie» du charbon, de l'acier et de l'agriculture ukrainiens et soviétiques.

This screening will be introduced by Club Ukrainien de Montréal.
Widely renowned for his film Man with a Movie Camera (1929), Dziga Vertov here captures aspects of life in the Donbas region, located in the eastern part of Ukraine. Not long after the film was released, this region suffered intensely from the man-made Great Famine (Holodomor) of 1931 and 1932, a horror that killed millions. In 2014 the region was occupied by armed separatists supported by Russia, initiating a war that is ongoing today. Although Enthusiasm was intended as propaganda in support of forced agricultural collectivization and industrialization, Vertov, whether consciously or unconsciously, incorporated many images that subtly challenged the authority of the regime. Through an amazing montage of industrial sounds and imagery, Vertov mounts a “symphony” of Ukrainian-Soviet coal, steel, and agriculture.
