About this Event

What does it mean to return, renew, and regenerate?

Join us for the first time in too long as we reunite in celebration of all things witchy and wondrous. Madam Tallula presents a night of grinning yellows, spinning reds, golden eyes; a trail of paper faces that lead to your wildest fancies. A greatly grinningly goose-bumpy gala hosted by your favorite MC Ach, Suzette with special guest Dandy, as we celebrate LA's return of the Annual Masquerade with poetry, burlesque, music, tarot readings, poetic souvenirs, installations, aerials, and beyond.

A sexy and sensuous soiree with Live Music by Blue Wagon Trio

Harp Stylings during cocktail hour by Gillian Grassie

Burlesque by: Richie Stokes as Sultan Princess & Frankie Tan as Moonlight

Aerials by: Lena Fumi

Featuring Poetry by:

Kiri Callaghan as Echo, Renata Zhigulina as Jean-Paul, Terence Leclere as Jacques Used, Vesta Vaingloria as Herself, Ian Anderson as Von Hohenheim, Frankie Tan as Moonlight, Kendalle Aubra as Ophelia Up, and introducing Tiffany Hudgins as Honey Locale.

We're dying to see you, O darling nameless you.

"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth." - Oscar Wilde¸

Madam Tallula presents a rotating cast of poets who impart their work as purveyors of private poetry readings in secret, hidden, well-appointed chambers. You may avail yourself of your choice of poet for tokens at any time during the event.

On the patio, the troupe presents Tarot readings, poetic souvenirs, live typewriter poetry, and occasional burlesque and musical performances.

On the stage, a three-hour roster of Vaudeville variety entertainment... and words, words, words! The El Cid tapas kitchen and bar will be open for dinner and drinks throughout. There is a new two-item/drink minimum per the venue.

"13 Best Things to Do in LA: Prepare to have your expectations exceeded by The Poetry Brothel." - LA Weekly¸·

In addition to its poets, The Poetry Brothel presents artists and activists working in a variety of mediums both on stage and through its ever-changing array of intimate, interactive, and creative services. Artists performing with the Brothel may be male, female, faeries, sea creatures, witches, aliens, POC, straight, queer, emerging, established, local, international, virgins, whores, and everything in between. The Poetry Brothel celebrates paid personal connection, but recognizes that not everyone can take off the mask of being a “whore” at the end of the night, and therefore uses its platform to support sex workers, and to teach the public that sex work is real work. Sex work and poetry are two of the oldest professions - both feed the human need for intimacy, fantasy, and desire. By entwining these elements into a seamless, immersive experience, The Poetry Brothel promotes empowered sexuality practices and progressive artistic expression by exhibiting radical inclusion, consensual intimacy, conscious communication, and the inherent value of beauty in all its forms. On Consent:Behave with beauty, connect with intention. We are, by and large, a no-contact event -- here to blow your mind and nothing else! Always ask before touching anyone in our House, and report any discomfort to security or staff or the Madam Herself without delay.Themed costumes and/or vintage formal wear are encouraged but not required. This event is 21+This is a wheelchair accessible event (ask us how!)Our show includes flashing lights, reasonably amplified music, a startling glimpse of your true self, and fog machines
