La Perla is a Bogota musical project that was born in 2014 and is made up of Karen Forero, Giovanna Mogollón and Diana Sanmiguel, musicians who research the musical tradition of the Colombian Caribbean with more than 15 years of experience in the interpretation of the format of gaitas and drums and bailes cantados. In 2015 they were the winners of the Ovejas Gaita Festival, Sucre, in the amateur
category as the first group from Bogota and the second group of women to win this recognition in the entire history of the festival. Since then, it has been an innovative project that, inspired by the traditional sounds of the Caribbean, pays homage to cultural legacies and ventures through other routes of the great Caribbean and other styles, until it reaches an original sound with attitude and a very unique charisma that fully represents the new Colombian music.
In 2017 they release their first EP Paren la Bulla with 4 songs; in 2018 the single Bruja that has brought great recognition to the group, a song that was chosen to be synchronized in the Netflix series, "Siempre Bruja". On June 20, 2019, they release their second EP ¿Qué Pasó? with the themes ¿Qué Pasó? and Anawana. In February 2020, release the single Guayabo. In November 2021 they release Selva
as the first single from their first full-length album, Callejera, recorded and produced at Mambo Negro Records in Bogota, which was released in its entirety in mid-September 2022. https://laperlabogota.bandcamp.com/album/callejera
Callejera has 12 songs that bring together your search and different musical experiences. This album brings together various rhythms that resonate in Latin America: the chalupa with samba, merengue with punk, chicha, lowered cumbia, guaguanco, rap.
Callejera: free woman, rebellious, traveler, who draws her own limits. // Who walks the street and finds in it spaces for creation and construction. Being a Callejera is knowing how to move, stop and challenge yourself; it is being strong through various experiences; be open to listen, to be surprised; it is knowing how to read the environment, blend into it and hone in on instinct.
This album is a sample of these years walking together, an ode to freedom, to diversity. Mutate, change and transform. Callejera marks the passage of the traveled paths; Indian trails, black songs, magic, laments, nostalgia and freedom.Create captivating, rhythmically circular atmospheres; an ideal environment for dance and trance.
They have circulated through concert halls, bars, cultural centers and festivals where they have played both traditional music and their own repertoire, in countries such as Mexico, Chile, Spain, France, England, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, Hungary. In 2021 they participated in WOMEX, a highly recognized music fair worldwide, with a showcase at the Oporto Coliseum, Portugal.
During the summer of 2022 they were in France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Hungary and England, and performed 40 concerts, in a tour of 100 days. In France they played on legendary stages such as the Elysée Montmartre in Paris, sharing the stage with Zoufris Maracas; at festivals such as Jazz Sous Les Pommiers in Coutance, Worldwide Fest in Sète, Les Suds Festival in Arles, VieillesCharrues Festival in Carhaix, Samba al País in Saint Antonin Noble with Pulcinella, an experimental jazz band from Toulouse with whom they share the PulciPerla project, and at Musicalarue Festival in Luxey. Germany received them on the Ballroom stage of the Fusion Festival; they first went to Hungary on the Global Village stage of the Sziget Festival and to the Shambala Festival in Northamptonshire in the UK.
