About this Event
7:30 PM Opening set by Black Dove
9:00 PM LA LOM
The Los Angeles League of Musicians are an instrumental trio who blend the sounds of cumbia, 60s soul ballads and classic romantic boleros. Theirs is the sound of favorite songs on the car radio, rocking backyard parties and dance clubs, blended with the guitar-driven twang of Peruvian chicha and Bakersfield County, and the laid-back aesthetic of LA.
The band begin by the group of talented musicians playing classic Latin music at area hotels. Guitarist Nicholas Baker picked up on the treasured boleros of his grandmother, born in Durango Mexico. Drummer Zach Sokolow was recalling the tangos that his Argentine grandfather loved. These musical heirlooms were passed down to a new generation through La Lom’s songs. "We find a lot of inspiration in the people in the the places we play around the city. We play a lot of cumbia, but we also kind of have a background in a ton of different styles of music - a lot of soul and rockabilly and classic Latin music like boleros. And we sort of mix it all together and make it our own.”
The opening set features Black Dove - a featured member of the retro-soul label Mango Hill Records.
This concert is presented FREE to the public, produced by Rhythm Foundation with the support of the City of Hollywood.
