LA Explorer Series -- Angkor: The Lost Empire of Cambodia

The BerkeleyHaas Alumni Network of LA is proud to partner with the California Science Center in bringing you one of our first events in our new LA Explorer Series! Business leaders and professionals must always push their curiosities whenever possible, well beyond the limits of our professions.

See more than 120 Angkor original artifacts - half on tour outside Cambodia for the first time. LA is the first stop on its national and international tour. Once considered the most extensive metropolis in the world, Angkor houses over 100 temples, now mysteriously quiet and surrounded by the dense Cambodian forest.

Learn how archaeological techniques like decoding inscriptions, aerial surveying, and laser scanning, have enriched our knowledge about the city, people and environmental challenges that shaped its future.

Explore, through science, the mysteries of ancient Angkor, long obscured by the encroaching forests of Southeast Asia. The vast metropolis of Angkor was once the center of one of the greatest empires in the world. Enormous monuments to the gods are among the most remarkable achievements in all of human history. The reasons for the precipitous decline of Angkor, and the cultural resilience of the Khmer people who built it, have fascinated scientists for one and a half centuries.

Our museum visit also includes lunch and a guided behind the sceens tour, not avilable to the public. We hope to show you animals such as our endangered white abalone, protected Giant Sea basses, largest snake (over 7 feet long) and the adorable Fennec Foxes. You may even get to feed a few so prepare to get your hands dirty.
