About this Event

This module has a primary focus on community and out of hospital settings.

This module critically evaluates the practical skills and knowledge base of physical assessment on individual body systems.

It provides the healthcare practitioner with an advanced knowledge base, communication skills and clinical examination techniques to increase confidence and aid with patient care decisions and differential diagnosis for acute and chronic health problems.

Core topics include clinical reasoning and history taking, anatomy and physiology assessment and clinical presentation of respiratory, cardiovascular, abdominal, neurological, musculoskeletal and head and neck systems.

Aims:

This module aims to:

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the anatomy and physiology of body systems, with a focus on clinical presentation.

• Enable healthcare practitioners to plan, implement and evaluate physical assessments on different body systems.

• Provide students with an understanding of differential diagnosis and relevant management, including referral and collaborative practice.

This module seeks to provide focus and direction for practitioners who wish to develop their skills and expertise in physical assessments within the community and out of hospital settings.

The module aims to enable an individual practitioner to have broader competence skills to progress in a direction that meets workforce, meeting the needs of the future NHS as outlined in the Five Year Forward View by the Department of Health and the HEE agenda for Clinical Academic Careers Framework.

Completion of this module should help the practitioner to be in a better position to adapt and progress in their career and consideration to working in a community or out of hospital setting.

Prerequisites

• First degree / 120 credits at level 6 in relevant health and social care profession.

• Registration on relevant professional register; with no restrictions on current practice.

• A minimum of 6 months post-registration experience in a related area of practice.

• Employed in an appropriate healthcare setting with support from a practice supervisor
