About this Event
Hue, one of the oldest known cultivated plants in the world, are descendants of the Pacific brought to Aotearoa by our tūpuna. They hold an integral place in Māori and Indigenous technologies. Upon their arrival, our tūpuna adapted growing methods suited to this whenua, ensuring the success of these tipu for generations to come.
Intergenerational mātauranga is a taonga that continues to nourish. Kōrero Hue is a wānanga space curated to honour the whakapapa of hue, sharing traditional planting methods developed and refined by our tūpuna in Aotearoa.
This wānanga is more than a learning space, it is where tūpuna knowledge meets contemporary practice, reconnecting us with the whenua, mātauranga, and the resilience carried within these kākano.
Led by @putaanga (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga, Ngāti Porou, Kāi Tahu, Ngāti Arera ki Rarotonga, Kotirana), an intergenerational kaingaki kari who, after years of learning under rangatira Phil Belcher (Waimārama), now shares this mātauranga so it can continue to thrive for future generations.
Often found cultivating her urban māra kai, nestled in the concrete jungle of Ahuriri, Putaanga is a multifaceted creative of both ocean and earth. Rooted in the rhythms of Tangaroa and Papatūānuku, her mahi spans traditional mātauranga, contemporary innovation, and a deep connection to whenua and te taiao.
