Kweekje, kon luku!: Does it take a village to raise a child? (voertaal: Nederlands)

Kweekjes groeien op binnen families en netwerken: tantes, oma’s, buren, vrienden. In de tentoonstelling ‘ Kweekje, kon luku!’ kijken kweekjes terug op hun jeugd en delen zij hun verhalen.

Wat leren hun ervaringen ons over samen opvoeden? En over wat een kind nodig heeft? In Nederland is een tekort aan pleegouders. Kijken we eigenlijk wel genoeg naar het vangnet dat er al is? Wat kunnen formele pleegzorg en informele pleegzorg van elkaar leren?

Op 19 februari 2026 komen in OSCAM ervaringsdeskundigen en professionals samen voor een publieksavond rond pleegzorg en opvoeden. Nicole Terborg (journalist, initiator ‘Kweekje, kon luku!’ en zelf ook een kweekje) is de moderator.

Kweekje, kon luku!: Does it take a village to raise a child? (event in Dutch)

Kweekjes grow up within families and communities: aunts, grandmothers, neighbours, friends. In the exhibition “Kweekje, kon luku!”, they reflect on their childhood and share their personal stories.

What can these experiences teach us about collective parenting? And about what children really need to thrive? In the Netherlands there is a shortage of foster parents. Do we pay enough attention to the support systems that already exist? And what can formal and informal forms of foster care learn from one another?

On February 19, 2026, OSCAM brings together people with lived experience and professionals to discuss foster care and parenting. The evening will be moderated by Nicole Terborg (journalist, initiator of Kweekje kon luku! and herself a kweekje).
