Te Kawau Associates is pleased to work in collaboration with Waipapa Taumata Rau University of Auckland to assist in the cultural uplift of Māori staff.

The following programme outline for Kura Taumata Rau is proposed for Wednesday 25 September to Friday 27 September 2024 and will be held on the city campus at Ngā Tauira Marae, Tūtahi Tonu, B113.

The purpose of Kura Taumata Rau is to provide a forum for Māori staff to engage with the Ngāti Whātua ki Tāmaki cultural experts, to build and strengthen cultural awareness and capacity. Staff will be placed in 4 groups according to their Te Reo ability and undertake 4 rotations over the Kura duration.

Our delivery team consists of Robbie Pāora (Ngā kōrero tuku iho / hītōria o Ngāti Whātua and sites of significance on Campus), Te Kurataiaho Kapea (Tikanga, kīwaha, whakataukī, mātauranga Māori), Tūraukawa Bartlett (Te Reo Rangatira), Huia and Joe Pihema (Ngā Waiata o Ngāti Whātua).

Ngā kōrero tuku iho / hītōria o Ngāti Whātua and sites of significance on Campus, will cover the history of Ngāti Whātua ki Tāmaki right through to a hīkoi on the whenua around campus to sites of significance. (Bring appropriate shoes for this hīkoi)

Tikanga, kīwaha, whakataukī, mātauranga Māori looks at many things such as the process of pōhiri on Ngāti Whātua marae and a range of other related protocols, to help build your awareness and confidence before your next marae visit, various proverbs, metaphor, and axioms of Ngāti Whātua providing an insight into the culture and histories through these various language devices and a Māori world view.

Te Reo Rangatira is a language program that’s built to suit your needs and level. Beginners and advanced learners alike will find several gems to assist you on your reo-journey.

Ngā waiata o Ngāti Whātua provides an opportunity to learn waiata of Ngāti Whātua, their context and application. These waiata allow staff to engage and take part in hui strengthening their connection to the people of the land.
