Vi inviterer til en kunstnersamtale med den unge men allerede anerkjente fotokunstneren Claudia Amatruda, som kommer til Norge for første gang. Claudia skal delta på Fotogalleriets kommende gruppeutstilling "(Un)Commons: Towards an Institution Otherwise" som åpner 13. mars, og i vi benytter anledningen til å bli bedre kjent med hennes kunstnerskap i en samtale med Jan Christensen, styremedlem i Fotogalleriet, her på Istituttet dagen før utstillingsåpningen.
I sitt interessante arbeid fokuserer Claudia på en representasjon av kroppen gjennom fotografi, video og installasjoner, og tar for seg sosiale problemstillinger som funksjonshemming og med særlig vekt på den kreative prosessen. I sitt arbeid støtter hun seg gjerne på forskning på vitenskapelige og litterære tekster.
Kvelden byr også på en presentasjon ved Randi Midthun av utstillingen på Fotogalleriet generelt, og av Amatrudas bidrag der spesielt.

OM CLAUDIA AMATRUDA:
Claudia Amatruda (1995, Foggia, IT) is a visual artist working across photography, video, sculpture, and installation. She investigates the body as a site of resistance, transformation, and possible evolution. Rooted in a lived experience of disability, her practice explores continuities between the human, the posthuman, and the environment. Water plays a central role in her work: origin, device of care, and connective force linking human life, marine mammals, and fossil traces of extinct creatures. In 2026 she presents the solo exhibition A body engineered by water at Fondazione Carlo Gajani during ART CITY Bologna. In 2025 she holds a solo exhibition at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Stoccolma, following the “Nuove Traiettorie” special mention of the Premio Luigi Ghirri within Fotografia Europea 2024. The same year, she's selected by CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia for FUTURES Photography and receives the Premio Banca di Bologna in collaboration with PhMuseum. Her work has been featured in Artribune (2026), Exibart (2025), Il Giornale dell’Arte (2023), and C41 Magazine (2023). An artist book will be published by RVM Hub in 2026.
OM UTSTILLINGEN PÅ FOTOGALLERIET:
The exhibition "(UN)COMMONS: towards an institution otherwise" brings together artists working with photography, video, sound and installation, and explores how an art institution is shaped not only by its programme, but by its infrastructures: the building, exhibition systems, social environment, logistics of hosting, and the conditions under which art is produced and experienced.
Rather than presenting a fixed statement, (UN)COMMONS is structured as an active exhibition environment where the artworks and their installation processes become part of the project’s thinking.
