Sinds bekend is geworden dat grote festivalinvesteerders ook belangen hebben in Israël en op de Westelijke Jordaanoever, staan veel artiesten voor een lastig dilemma: kunnen we hier nog wel spelen?
Protest tegen het establishment zit diep in het DNA van muzikanten, maar hoe vrij kun je nog verzet bieden als je zelf afhankelijk bent van de geldstromen die je bekritiseert?
Tijdens hun optredens op Glastonbury en Paradiso riepen Bob Vylan “Death, death to the IDF” en “Free, free Palestine” — uitspraken die hen optredens, boekingen en hun agent kostten. Hun verhaal staat niet op zichzelf: steeds meer artiesten weigeren festivaldeals of roepen op tot boycot vanwege de banden met investeringsfonds KKR.
In dit gesprek onderzoeken we de spanningslijn tussen artistieke vrijheid, economische afhankelijkheid en morele grenzen. Waar ligt de grens tussen engagement en overleven? En wat betekent solidariteit nog in een industrie die draait op kapitaal?
