Join Elaina on Friday, May 21, for the first part of a 3 part Kundalini series. This week: Kriya to Open the Heart Center
Kundalini Yoga, known as the Yoga of Awareness, is a technology and science due to its precision in instruction. This comprehensive and effective form of yoga is a dynamic practice and its exercises combine several factors; posture, breathing, mantra, mudra and movement.
Kundalini energy is the coiled up dormant, cosmic power that underlies all organic, and inorganic matter within us. It is symbolized as a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. As we start to work with this energy we begin to allow it to travel up the spine through our chakras (main energy centers) to higher consciousness. Kundalini yoga is a practice that teaches us the controlled release of kundalini energy.
In a Kundalini practice you will stretch, breathe, chant and meditate, and let “sound current” deliver you to a stunning state of therapeutic rejuvenation that benefits, supports, and can realign the immune, glandular, nervous, and cardiovascular systems of the body.
This Heart Opening kriya is great for those new to kundalini yoga as well as those who want to cultivate a softness in their heart. It is meditative and the pace allows for introspection of the feelings and energy around the heart space.
Consisting of gentle breathwork, seated and standing exercises this kriya will calm & connect us back to the heart.
In this Kundalini yoga & meditation series we will be exploring three different kriyas (actions or sets of exercises) that are specific in their intention towards benefiting the body, mind, & spirit. Kundalini yoga works with the subtle bodies or energetic anatomy. This series will be offered the third Friday of every month (May, June, July).
The May class on 5/21 will be a kriya to Open the Heart Center.
The June class on 6/18 will be a kriya for Strengthening the Immune System.
The July class on 7/16 will be a kriya for the Nervous System and Glandular Balance.
What to expect in a Kundalini Yoga class:
-Tune in mantra: ONG NAMO GURU DEV NAMO chant 3X
We chant to invoke our intention and spirit to practice. Most mantras we utilize in Kundalini classes are in sanskrit. This particular mantra translates to "I bow to the divine teacher & wisdom within"
-Warm-ups for the spine & cardiovascular system, movement & breath are often dynamic & wake up the dormant/stagnant energy in the body.
-Brief chat about the kriya (set of exercises) for the class
-Kriya: Each exercise is precise in its instruction. This precision allows for a greater and deeper focus towards connecting with the systems in the body.
-Meditation, sometimes a meditation is within a kriya and other times it is taught before or after.
-Savasana/final relaxation/integration pose
-Closing song & chant
"May the long time sun shine upon you, all love surrounds you, and the pure light within you, guide your way on"
Sat Nam translates to "truth is my identity"
