Kotatsu Japanese Animation Festival 2024

Kotatsu Festival is excited to be back to Chapter with another programme of the finest Japanese animated films.

The Kotatsu Festival has been running since 2010 at venues around Wales. A ‘Kotatsu‘ is a table unique to Japan which is draped in a blanket futon or quilt with a heater underneath. It’s ideal to keep your feet and legs warm at family gatherings or while you are working away on the cold winter nights. So come on in pull the blanket around you and enjoy some of the finest Japanese animation available.

Films

This year we are screening 7 feature films including 3 Welsh premieres, The Concierge, City Hunter: Angel Dust and Komada - A Whisky Family, providing an exclusive opportunity to experience groundbreaking films before they hit wider screens.

Through partnership with the New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival in Japan, there will be a programme of 6 short films from independent Japanese animators, including SHISHIGARI, directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, Director of Look Back.

Music performance

And don't forget Jero11 is back this year! He is a guitarist and shamisen player who composes instrumental rock inspired by traditional Japanese instrumentation. His performance will be held on Saturday.

Marketplace / Manga Kissa

Our marketplace offers Japan inspired crafts and Manga comics and DVDS. Jero11 will be there on Saturday and the Japanese calligrapher Yukiko Ayers will join us on Sunday from London. Manga/Comic/DVDs donations are very welcome and all money raised will be used for future Kotatsu events.
