About this Event
Malaysia’s restructuring and insolvency framework is undergoing one of its most significant shifts in recent years. With the country’s adoption of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency and the anticipated introduction of a statutory cross-class cramdown mechanism under the Companies (Amendment) Bill 2025, Malaysia is aligning itself with international standards — creating new opportunities and challenges for companies, creditors and advisers alike.
This seminar brings together practitioners and stakeholders across the restructuring landscape to discuss what these developments mean in practice.
Join us for an engaging day of discussions as we explore how these reforms are redefining Malaysia’s insolvency landscape and what lies ahead for stakeholders navigating financial distress.

The Changing Landscape of R&I in Malaysia: New Rescue Tools in Practice
Info: A year on from Malaysia’s introduction of corporate rescue mechanisms modelled closely on Singapore’s regime, this session takes stock of how these tools have operated in practice. We will unpack lessons from Singapore’s more mature experience—how pre-pack schemes, super-priority financing, and cram down have been deployed, tested, and refined through case law—and consider how Malaysia’s first year of implementation measures up.
From the insolvency perspective, we will examine the parallel developments affecting the running of distressed companies. Drawing from recent real-life Malaysian cases, we will explore the challenges faced by liquidators in managing large-scale liquidations.
