Kool Keith is an American rapper and producer from The Bronx, New York. He first gained fame as a member of the pioneering hip-hop group Ultramagnetic MCs in the late 1980s, known for their innovative use of samples and dense, complex rhymes.
After leaving Ultramagnetic MCs in the early 1990s, Kool Keith embarked on a solo career that has spanned several decades and produced numerous critically acclaimed albums. He is known for his eccentric and often surreal lyrics, which often touch on themes of science fiction, sex, and violence, as well as his inventive use of language and wordplay.
Kool Keith is also known for his various aliases, including Dr. Octagon, Black Elvis, and Dr. Dooom. He has collaborated with a wide range of other artists, including Dan the Automator, Prince Paul, and MF DOOM, and has been cited as an influence by many other rappers and producers. Kool Keith continues to perform and record music to this day, and remains a beloved and influential figure in the world of hip-hop.
His newest album Black Elvis 2 is out June 16th on Mello Music Group.
DJ Shortkut
Versatile and accomplished, DJ Shortkut is driven by passion for music that started in San Francisco in 1987 as a mobile DJ, progressing on to competing in World DJ championships throughout the 90’s. Shortkut, is a member of 3 of the most influential DJ crews in history: The Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Beat Junkie Sound & The Triple Threat DJs.
As a seasoned veteran in DJ competitions, he is responsible for birthing new techniques & innovations to the turntablist culture, while maintaining dance floors internationally, playing music spanning countless genres. At the forefront of DJ culture & technology, Shortkut is a featured brand ambassador for DJ software company Algoriddim. Having travelled an average of 20+ countries annually, his performances include renowned events such as: Coachella, Bonnaroo, Sole DXB, Outside Lands, The Boiler Room, The Do-Over, and a residency on Damian Marley’s Welcome to JamRock Reggae Cruise.
On the day of Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary, Shortkut was inducted into the Bay Area Hip Hop Hall of Fame. He was also the official opening DJ for L.L. Cool J’s “Force Tour”, alongside legendary artists The Roots, De La Soul, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Rakim, touring 19 cities nationwide. He finished off the year as the official dj for the Roots Picnic show held at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. With his diverse selection in music and roots in turntablism, Shortkut establishes himself as one of the most sought after talents in the entertainment & music industry.
