Konstruct returns 1.12.23 with Queen of the Mole People, femmelectric & JX-216
Queen of the Mole People (Minneapolis)-
Queen of the Mole People, an amalgam of camp 80’s movies and 808 kicks sheathed in a comic book wrapper, coalesced into being at the end of 2021. A few months later, she had her DJ debut at the Overlook music festival on New Year's Day 2022. While the persona may be recent, it’s backed by the selector skills of Minneapolis-based techno veteran and artist Leigh Simmons, a.k.a. Devil Girl. Honed in the crucible of the storied 90’s Midwest rave scene, she’s the creator behind the long-running Devil Cake Techno podcast on UK-based FNOOB techno radio, and Android Assassins, formally on Threads. While she’s best known for techno, her electro mixes have been hosted by Bass Agenda, Dark Science Electro, and NYC’s Serotonin Records Neurotransmitters Series. As Queen of the Mole People, she’s gaining a dedicated following for her inventive mixing style.
femmelectric (SF)-
femmelectric explores sonic storytelling through dynamic, beat-forward soundtracks that transcend a single mood or era. She approaches her sets thematically, expounding upon an inspiration point, whether it be a personal mood, collective energy, the vibe of a party, or the sound of artist’s she’s supporting. By drawing from her collection of classic and contemporary downtempo, house, electro, breaks, and world music, femmelectric curates musical journeys that can be slow and sensual, uplifting and soulful, dark and moody, or just straight banging. She is known to traverse genres, but with early rave roots in Florida, classic breakbeat and its derivatives are always in close rotation.
JX-216 (SF)-
Formerly known as Milkplant, JX-216 is an alias developed by San Francisco Techno DJ/Producer, Justin William Pennell over the last several years. Schooled in the Midwest and on the West Coast, his work encompasses over 30 years of combined DJ/production experience, and 15 years operating the label From 0-1, with Sone. Several years into his new alias, he’s released music on Sleaze Records, BEK Audio, Blank Code, Children of Tomorrow, Devotion, Suara, etc. with his tracks played by Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Cari Lekebusch, Norman Nodge, Richie Hawtin, Randomer, Tommy Four Seven, Electric Indigo, Samuli Kemppi, Arnaud Le Texier, Abstract Division, and more.
