Konbit | A Haitian Music Series
About this Event
A monthly Haitian afternoon at CONTXT, mostly vinyl with a splash of digital.
We’re digging into konpa, rara, zouk, twoubadou, racine and the sounds that connect them. Deep crates, good people, a little history and plenty of room to dance.
In Haiti, konbit is the spirit of neighbours gathering, sharing the work and building something together. That same energy sits at the heart of this party: music, culture and community in one room.
Come early. Grab a drink and something to eat. Stay for the records, the stories and the dancing. 🫡
What the afternoon looks like :
1 PM | Doors
We ease into the afternoon with twoubadou, racine and deeper selections.
2 PM | The Record
Each month, we pull one record from the crate, share its story and play it the way it deserves to be heard: loud.
2:30 PM | Konpa + Zouk
The tempo rises. The floor opens up. Time to dance.
4 PM | Closing set
A final run of records, a few more dances and plenty of reasons to stay until the end.
5 PM | That’s a wrap
Music in your system and the whole evening still ahead of you. 🙏🏾
Haitian? Pull up.
Love creole AND Afro Franco music? Pull up.
Record head? You already know.
Bring your parents, too. There’s a good chance they know the records better than we do.
Hear it before you come: Konbit Session 0 - one hour of Haitian records, on the house.
Already excited for the first one. 🫡
