KOLO KINO CINEMA CLUB - SUNNY BUNNY FESTIVAL
About this Event
KOLO KINO CINEMA CLUB
This special edition is presented in collaboration with the SUNNY BUNNY Festival, the first Ukrainian LGBTQIA+ film festival.
SUNNY BUNNY grows out of the long-standing LGBTQIA+ strand of the Molodist International Film Festival, which has existed since 2001. Molodist, founded in 1970, was among the first major international film festivals, after Berlinale and the Teddy Awards, to introduce a dedicated LGBTQIA+ program and award.
Today, Sunny Bunny continues this legacy as a leading LGBTQIA+ cultural platform in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, presenting an international competition for feature-length fiction films, alongside non-competition programs of documentaries, shorts, and queer classics. The festival expands this tradition while opening up to a broader range of voices, themes, and cinematic practices.
Program:
THE STORY
by Vadim Mochalov
Working on his screenplay about two guys admitting their feelings for each other, a film directing major from Kyiv Lyonya asks his classmate Andriy, with whom he’s secretly in love, to help with the script editing.
FLOWERS AND BEASTS
by Victoria Shved
In the 1930s, within a Pr*son cell somewhere in Europe, young inmate P. spends his days reading about murderers in newspapers and eagerly awaits the night. When night falls, a magical transformation occurs, setting the stage for a unique exploration of love, queerness, obsession, and unexpected sources of strength. Inspired by the novel „Our Lady of the Flowers“ by Jean Genet.
THE ESTATE
by Eugene Slupchuk
In a secluded mansion on the outskirts of Kyiv, a young man awaits the return of his close friend, who is on leave from military service in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The friends must find time to carry out several of their cherished rituals, including taking a photograph together. But what is the memory they are capturing in this photo, and what is the ultimate ritual the old mansion holds secret?
LOST
by Veronika Havrykova
After a painful breakup with her ex-girlfriend, a young woman runs away from her memories by moving from Ukraine to Germany. As she gets into a taxi, her story gradually unfolds: her belief that love can overcome all is shattered when the woman she loved chooses fear of judgment over true feelings. A conversation with the taxi driver unexpectedly touches not only her wounds but also the driver's doubts about his son's orientation. By the end of the journey, each of them discovers something important — but will they have the strength to change?
WHAT YOU WILL DO WHEN THE WAR CONTINUES?
by Vladyslav Plisetskyi
The second part of Vladyslav Plisetskyi's trilogy, which was launched before the full-scale invasion. The film explores how a prolonged war changes society, political narratives and personal reality. Through his own biography, performances, dialogue with his father and the transformations of the Ukrainian queer community, the author shows the collision of identities, cultures and ideologies. The war becomes a background for deeply personal stories and visual narratives that merge into an artistic manifesto.
We are also gathering donations to support the festival, which continues its work during the war in Ukraine.
All profits from this screening will go directly to supporting Sunny Bunny.
Language: Ukrainian with English subtitles.
Entry by donation.
