Exploring the limitless possibilities of the traditional Japanese drum, Kodo is forging new directions for a vibrant, living art-form. Since the group’s debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981, Kodo has given over 6,500 performances on all five continents. Striving to both preserve and re-interpret traditional Japanese performing arts, the group is influenced by a kaleidoscope of world music and experiences. Tsuzumi will trace the group’s origins back to the beginning as they reflect on their history and re-affirm what has shaped Kodo today. The program features a very special piece in the ensemble’s history – Dyu-Ha, which has not been performed in North America since 1989.
