In 2016 Kodama Trio won the New Mexico Music Awards for both best Jazz album and best Jazz song. They play a mix of originals, covers and jazz tunes in unique Kodama style.
Robert Muller is a modern jazz pianist from Santa Fe, New Mexico. He spent his early years in Portland, Oregon where he studied with Blue Note legend Dr. Andrew Hill and performed with local greats like Leroy Vinegar and Akbar DePriest. After college, he spent over a decade in New York, where he worked with a variety of independent artists and performed at venues including the Blue Note, Studio 54, and the Knitting Factory. Since landing in New Mexico, he has collaborated with regional artists like songstress Hillary Smith, former US Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, and contemporary jazz artist Ryan Montaño. He maintains a busy New Mexico performance schedule and also tours the US with Diné jazz artist Delbert Anderson. He's a founding member of Kodama Trio, who won New Mexico Music Awards for Best Jazz Album, Best Jazz Single, and he was recipient of the NMMA 2024 Eric Larson Lifetime Achievement Award.
Jeremy Bleich is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who incorporates a wide palette of sound and culture into the process of creating music. He has toured extensively across Europe and the U.S playing bass and electronics with critically acclaimed trio Birth, award winning Kodama Trio and oud with Zevk Ensemble and Trio Andaluz. He resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he is involved with presenting new music on his Grasshopper Music record label, producing House Concert Chamber Music events, and teaching Orchestra at Los Alamos Public Schools. Jeremy has played and/or recorded with musicians as diverse as Cuong Vu, Joe Maneri, Chris Jonas, Carmen Castaldi, Jason White, Keven McCarthy, and Rick Elias. Jeremy has composed, conducted, and produced a variety of musical theatre works including "Love and Emma Goldman" A Rock Opera made possible by a generous grant from The California Foundation for Peace and Justice.
Milton Villarrubia, III is a drummer and percussionist with a rich background in both rudimental and jazz drumming. Beginning his journey with the Expressions Drum and Bugle Corps in New Orleans, Milton refined his skills under the mentorship of the legendary street-beat instructor, Marty Hurley. After earning a bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance from the University of New Orleans, Milton has played with notable artists like Regina Carter, Peter Bernstein, Steve Masakowski, and Myra Melford. A key member of the Kodama Trio, Milton contributed to their 2016 New Mexico Music Award for Best Jazz Album. Currently based in Santa Fe, he teaches drumming at local institutions and maintains an active performance schedule. His sound is uniquely his own, reflecting a deep and fiery love for all musical styles, from gangster rap to opera.
