Elle Benson's Novelty and Happiness Labs are a space where families in East Tennessee can come together to cultivate joy, curiosity, and connection. These labs aren't just about having fun—they’re about building the emotional and mental resilience that helps families thrive, especially as they navigate life’s challenges. While it’ll feel like a fun Monday evening out, your participation helps to add valuable research through Belmont University.
What is a happiness lab? They are events where thrill seeking participants sign up to come without knowing the details. The research hypothesis is that when we reduce our expectations, we are able to show up with an open-mind and relate to the experience with greater happiness. You’ll find out the address 90-minutes before hand (to give you plenty of time to drive there) and learn about the activity when you arrive.
WHY DO IT? These experiences tap into the power of novelty to nurture cognitive health, boost emotional well-being, and foster social bonds. When we engage in new, creative activities, our minds light up. We become sharper, more engaged, and better equipped to handle stress.
Each lab is designed with intention:
- Interactive Experiences: Activities that push participants beyond the everyday, challenging the brain in ways that enhance mental agility and memory.
- Community and Connection: Group-based interactions that bring people together, reinforcing the importance of social support in maintaining mental health.
- Mindfulness and Gratitude: Simple practices that ground us in the present moment, relieving stress and bringing a sense of calm.
- Laughter and Play: Light-hearted exercises that remind us that joy and humor are powerful tools for reducing anxiety and bringing families closer.
The goal of these labs is simple: to build healthier, happier families by helping people of all ages, especially our elders, find purpose and connection.
Dinner will be provided, all food allergies will be taken care of, just note allergies on registration.
