About this Event
In honor of Black Maternal Health Week 2026, The Dope Doula DMV and First Shift Justice Project are coming together for a community workshop built around this year's theme: Rooted in Justice and Joy.
This is a space to learn, ask questions, and leave feeling equipped — not overwhelmed. Whether you're currently pregnant, planning for the future, or supporting someone who is, this workshop is for you.
What we'll cover
Your workplace rights during pregnancy, postpartum, and while nursing — including leave, accommodations, and protections against discrimination
How to advocate for yourself in prenatal, labor, and postpartum care settings
How to communicate with your care team, ask the right questions, and push back when something doesn't feel right
Tools and language to use before, during, and after birthCommunity Q&A — bring your questions
Who should come
Pregnant people, new parents, those planning for pregnancy, partners, family members, and anyone who wants to show up better for the birthing people in their lives. All are welcome.
