This program is a love letter to my big brother. He passed away in Jan of 2018. I didn't know what was happening until we got the call that he was gone. From what we heard, he was sick with a fever and tried to sleep it off. After a few days of not getting up his friends took him to the ER where his blood sugar was over 1600 mg/dl. He was in the hospital for over a week. He never woke up and passed away in a diabetic coma on 01/18/2018. He was never officially diagnosed with diabetes. He didn't have insurance, and at the time was unemployed. Although people are losing weight with the help of some medications, diabetes is still on the rise. People are getting diagnosed every day. Others are walking around undiagnosed, and millions are walking around with pre diabetes.
One of the most impactful things I have seen in all my years as a nurse is letting people wear a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). A CGM is a device worn on the back of the arm and it reads how your blood sugars react to your daily choices. Back in 2018 CGMs were not available over the counter and you needed a prescription to get one. Thankfully that's different now. If my brother had the opportunity to wear one back then he might still be here now.
So this is my offering....
A 2 week program that starts in person:
Day 1 (in person) - We meet, join a what's app group and put a CGM on together. We go over what to expect and some initial education for the program and get to know each other a little bit with fun activities and some shares.
Day 2-13 (remote) - You will receive educational videos & tasks for you to focus on throughout the program.
Day 14 (remote) - we meet via what's app call and share some of what we learned and will take away from the experience.
