From First Stitch to Masterpiece: A 4-Part Knitting Journey

This series takes place over 4 weeks, beginning on Thursday September 3rd and continues on September 10th, 17th and 24th. Each class is 2 hours long from 7-9 pm.

Overview:
This four-part knitting series is designed to take students from complete beginners to confident, advanced knitters. Each session builds on the last, combining hands-on instruction with practical projects so you will leave with all the skills you'll need plus a knitting journal filled with samples from each class. Whether you’ve never held needles before or want to refine your technique, this structured progression will guide you every step of the way.

Part 1: Foundations of Knitting – Getting Started
Perfect for absolute beginners, this session introduces the essentials. Participants will learn how to hold needles and yarn, cast on and create basic stitches such as knit and purl. By the end, you’ll understand pattern basics as well as how to read a basic knitting pattern and how to choose the right yarn for a project.

Skills Covered:

  • Tools and materials overview
  • Casting on and binding off
  • Knit and purl stitches
  • Reading beginner patterns & deciphering the information on a yarn ball band.

Part 2: Building Confidence – Texture & Technique
In this session, you'll expand your skills by exploring stitch patterns and shaping techniques. You’ll learn how to create texture, fix common mistakes and start working with slightly more complex patterns.

Skills Covered:

  • Increasing and decreasing stitches
  • Fixing dropped stitches
  • Reading intermediate patterns and how to use stitch dictionaries

Part 3: Expanding Your Craft – Color & Cables
Take your knitting to the next level by incorporating colorwork and the beauty of cables. Students will begin a more detailed look at advanced concepts that will introduce new techniques and build precision.

Skills Covered:

  • Stripes and basic colorwork such as Fair Isle, stranded and duplicate stitch
  • Understanding gauge and how to correct for your particular tension
  • Introduction to cables and how to read cable patterns

Part 4: Mastery & Creativity – Designing Your Own Piece
The final session focuses on refining advanced techniques and encouraging creativity. Participants will gain the confidence to modify patterns or design their own projects, completing the journey from beginner to independent knitter. We will go over multiple shaping techniques for designing your own wrap/shawl and incorporating elements that you learned in previous classes.

Skills Covered:

  • Advanced stitch combinations
  • Pattern modification and customization
  • Finishing techniques (blocking, seaming)
  • Tips for designing original pieces

Who This Is For:

  • Complete beginners looking for a structured learning path
  • Intermediate knitters wanting to deepen their skills
  • Anyone interested in creating handmade, high-quality knitwear

Outcome:
By the end of the series, students will have a strong technical foundation, multiple examples and the confidence to tackle advanced knitting patterns or design their own creations.

All supplies are included.
