<<this action="" has="" been="" organized="" on="" lkwungen="" territory.="" as="" organizers="" we="" ask="" that="" people="" coming="" remember="" longstanding="" requests="" from="" local="" to="" with="" good="" minds="" and="" hearts="">>After many militarized raids, ongoing criminal charges against Indigenous land defenders and supporters, and incessant colonial chatter about reconciliation, the Wet'suwet'en remain steadfast and present on their yintah upholding their system of laws.
We ask people here on Lkwungen territory to respond to this beating heart of Indigenous resurgence by joining us on Thursday morning at 8AM infront of the BC Oil and Gas Commission at 2950 Jutland Rd. As Sleydo and Jen Wickham shared in a recent visit to these territories, whatever happens with Coastal GasLink, Gidimt'en relationships to the Wedzin Kwa will continue, as will responsibilities to protect their sacred relationships.
Similarly, we too want to signal that colonial institutions who permit the violation of Indigenous lands and laws must be undone for decolonization to be possible, and that we too will continue to renew our relationships and uphold our responsibilities to participate in this undoing. Specifically, we are bringing this message to the BC Oil and Gas Commission, as the entity permitting Coastal GasLink, and more broadly created by the NDP in 1999 to help corporations speed the rate of destruction.
We invite people to wear black, in mourning and defiance, and bring their own signs to share the message that we - Indigenous people and settlers - will continue to resist colonization, from Lkwungen to Wet'suwet'en and beyond colonial borders.
ACCESSIBILITY: 2950 Jutland is a 350m walk from Jutland and Gorge Rd, which can be reached on the #11 bus. There are several washrooms immediately nearby in commercial buildings. Organizers would be happy to pay for a coffee if access to a washroom requires buying a commodity. There is a covered area to stay out of the rain.
We expect the action to run as long as 10AM, and have organized people to liaise with police, civil servants, and also to serve as de-escalators if such a situation should arise. We intend to serve a simple breakfast with coffee and options for various dietary restrictions.
This action has been organized by a small, ad-hoc group of white settlers with conversations with Indigenous people up North and locally. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please contact either Keith Cherry ([email protected]) or Seb Bonet ([email protected]).</this>
