𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐚 is a Danish-Peruvian artist who uses painting as a form of storytelling. Many of his works are inspired by family albums, touching on subjects like memory, diaspora and belonging. Between 2010 and 2016 Santino ran 𝘓𝘖𝘚, a café located in the Copenhagen neighborhood of Nørrebro, which hosted exhibitions, union meetings and social gatherings. He is also one of the initiators of 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘻𝘢, a collective project that activates one of the rooms of the Royal Danish Art Academy (where Santino is currently enrolled) as a 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 space.
At KKVMM the artist will talk about his experience with the R.O.S.C.A (𝘙𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯), a method primarily practiced by women in the Global South to overcome the unfair logic of the banking system. Santino’s involvement in this communal money-pooling system is influenced by the work of scholar Caroline Shenaz Hossein, author of 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘔𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 (2016) and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘦𝘳 𝘓𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴 (2024), as well as the co-editor of 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘮 (2023).
After the conversation we will go down to Skånes konstförening, for a guided visit of 𝑬𝑳𝑨𝑺𝑻𝑰𝑪𝑲𝒀. The exhibition presents works by Santino, Jenny Berg, Antigoni Tsagkaropoulou and Guido Ignatti, and is curated by Fuxia 2 and Melina Ruiz Natali.
The event is free, open to everyone and will be held in English.
