🕺🧑🎄 GUEST TEACHER 🧑🎄💃
Lauren Rafferty is a trained professional dancer in many styles of dance, including contemporary, ballet, jazz, street dance, tap and musical theatre, training with some of the industry’s top professionals.
She began her teaching journey in local primary schools and community groups delivering dance and sport, which later led her to create her own company ‘VersaStyle Dance Events’. In 2017 she decided to further her dance, choreography and teaching knowledge, attending university and graduating in 2018 with a first class honours degree in Dance.
Lauren fell upon a local Salsa night in Darlington in 2013 and instantly found herself immersed in the SBK (Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba) world to which she soon discovered Kizomba and became totally hooked. After many years of dancing a variety of styles she realised that her true passion for dance lay here and totally engrossed herself in the Kizomba world.
Lauren has completed teacher training with Lucia Nogueira and Eddy Vents to develop her technique, teaching skills and understanding of Kizomba, through detailed and organised courses that are provided around the globe. Lauren successfully set up weekly classes in Newcastle and Darlington and is a regular teacher with Kizomba Leeds, as well as teaching various levels of Kizomba/Semba/Tarraxinha at a number of events, festivals and workshops around the UK and Europe, both as a solo artist and with previous and current partnerships. She has also continued to choreograph and perform, creating a show with Miguel Monteiro, worked alongside Adda Dociu in a choreography project and running choreography camps in her local scene during the pandemic.
Over the years Lauren has realised that she not only has a passion for dance and Kizomba but a passion for teaching, prompting her to complete a PGCE in Primary Education, graduating as an Outstanding, Ofsted approved teacher in 2022 and securing a role in a local primary school. She enjoys coming up with new and creative ways to engage her students to aid their learning (no matter their age) taking every opportunity to learn from some of the amazing artists/teachers she’s worked closely with so far.
