KIWANIS - Knife Awareness and Suicide Prevention Workshop

This workshop would be for young people, parents, and professionals that will address knife crimes, suicide prevention, and,, basic first aid skills and provide information on ‘bleed control kits’.

As part of this KIWANIS initiative, Kiwanis London Borough of Bromley would like to raise funds for 100 ‘bleed control kits’ for the four London Boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, and Sutton; these ‘bleed control kits’, can save lives.

We will be buying the Bleed Kits from The Daniel Baird Foundation. They are a charity that was founded by Daniel's mum, Lynne Baird, her son died of knife crime in 2017.

It is our intention that we place these ‘bleed control kits’ in places where incidents of violent crimes may be more prevalent with the need for ‘bleed control kits’, in the event of such incidents, this may buy our young people valuable time for the attending paramedics to arrive.

The areas for discussion within the workshop will be as follows:

1. In understanding suicide and looking for the signs of suicidal behaviour in our young people how to support those who may be at risk.
2. In looking at knife crime awareness, we explore the causes and consequences of knife crimes in the community.
3. Awareness of ‘bleed control kits’ and First Aid and the importance of having these ‘bleed control kits’ and having them available in public places, schools, and in the areas children frequent and knowing how to use them.
4. There are to be Guest Speakers with a Panel Discussion. We would like to invite professionals from the Contextual Safeguarding Teams in the local borough, mental health experts, police officers, and parents to share their insights and experiences.
5. It would be of benefit to provide information on resources and support services in the areas discussed within the workshop.
