About this Event
This event is designed for all who would like to learn about one of the most fascinating ways of food preservation: lactic acid fermentation. Think gherkins and sauerkraut, the real deal.
Whether you've never tried fermentation, or you did and you don't know where you went wrong, this workshop is packed with information for a success no matter what level you think you are.
This popular event has yielded dozens of happy fermenters across the North of England. And no, it's not all sauerkraut and boring, farty foods you eat because they're good for you! Think: spicy pink carrots side dish, mango hot sauce, sweet tomato & basil puree, reviving gut shots.. oh yes baby, this workshop is for foodies!
During the session, we will:
- Explore the history of fermenting around the world and the science of digestion
- We will go through the newest research on food: Ultra processed foods, organic and local - what does it do and what's the best?
- Taste a variety of fermented foods and drinks to give your gut a gentle introduction to the new culture and tune your taste buds to an experience that will shape your future food choices
- Make four ferments for you to take home and start your fermenting obsession straight away
- Discuss aftercare and troubleshooting, after the workshop you will be able to reach out to me if you're not sure about something
Join me at the The Oxford Blue and learn about the simple Polish-style fermentation process, including the roles of various herbs and spices, equipment needed, after-care and storage.
With winter at the doorstep it's time to up the immune system and master a skill that will keep you healthy and vibrant not only this season, but for years to come. Let's look back at methods that our ancestors used for millennia and which are now proven to be the key to a healthy gut and long term metabolic health (yes this includes Parkinsons, Alzheimer's and the C-word..)
Warning: according to past participants, this hobby is highly addictive. Spouses must be forewarned and jar space in the household must be accomodated. Funky smells may be present (but you will love it).
