YCSL member Sheila Abrams invites you to join her on a journey exploring the uplifting sounds and healing benefits of an ancient spiritual practice - kirtan chanting.
Sheila is photographed above receiving a blessing from Swami Sankarananda.
With roots in the Vedic tradition, kirtan is a call-and-response chant set to music. Participants are led in expressing spiritual ideas and affirmations aimed at connecting hearts and celebrating Oneness.
No musical abilities are needed. Sheila will teach us each mantra or chant, then lead us through it as she plays on the harmonium.
She invites participants to bring drums or any other noise makers, if they would like, to help keep the rhythm.
Admission will be a love offering (whatever your heart is called to share).
To add to the community element of this gathering, people are invited to come at noon and share lunch together, if they would like. Simply bring your own lunch and enjoy! The Kirtan event will begin at 1 p.m. and masks will be required, since we will be singing.
Here is a wonderful article about kirtan and its popularity in the United States:
