The public is cordially invited to attend the Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans service at First Presbyterian Church, Waycross, on November 15th at 11 a.m.
From ancient times to the present, the plaid (or tartan) represents a Clan or Family. Our Celtic forefathers were staunch defenders of the Church, which in Gaelic was called Kirk. Kirkin’ of the Tartans translates as a carrying of the Clan colors to church for the annual All Saints’ Day blessing. The original word Clan means children. Today, as children in the family of God, we celebrate our biennial Kirkin’. We present our tartan banners to the Glory of God. The tartans are a visible commitment to God, a pledge to be faithful to His plan of Salvation, a means to reach out to others that they, too, may know Him.
A bagpiper, men in traditional kilts, women and children in colorful plaids, tartan banners, Scottish music, and a church service celebrating our Scottish heritage will be part of this memorable service.
Following the worship service everyone is invited and encouraged to stay for our fellowship lunch.
