About this Event
The Kings & Queens of Africa event is one of the most unique cultural events that embraces the power of tradition, education, and celebration. This event promotes the achievements and contributions of Africans and people of African descent through art, music, theater, fashion, design, dance, drumming, spoken word, comedy, and storytelling from various communities and backgrounds. Our goal is to foster unity and celebrate the beauty of diversity.
The theme of the Kings & Queens of Africa event:
The History of a Nation - Remember & Honor the Past, Preserve the Present to Shape the Future.
This extraordinary celebration is one way of sharing history with our brothers and sisters that we have been Kings and Queens for generations and generations. This event will take place on September 14, 2024 from 5pm to 11pm. The VIP Reception from 5 pm to 6pm is reserved for special guests, media, dignitaries, and VIP guests. The event will take place at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) Theater of the Arts, 4200 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008.
The event will honor the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and contributions of African royalty. It promises to be an inspiring gathering featuring distinguished guests, enlightening presentations, cultural performances, and opportunities for networking with community leaders, celebrities, and dignitaries from across the African continent and the African diaspora.
The event includes special guest performers Juanita Wynn, Grammy Award Winning Singer-Songwriter, Cheick Hamala Diabate, Grammy Nominee World Musician, Kumi Samuel, renowned Ghanaian Sculpture Artist, Anna Mwalagho, Comedian, Poet/Spoken Word Artist & Musician, Tonya Gipson Miller, International Gospel Recording Artist, Joseph Ngwa, Ancestral Master Drummer, KanKouran West African Dance Company, Keur Khaleyi African Dance Company, Losco Traditional Igbo Dance, international and the most dynamic emerging artists and fashion designers in the DC Metropolitan Area – DC-MD-VA (DMV )
The two-day event line-up includes workshops, art exhibits, vendor expo, interviews, auction, VIP reception, fashion show and a grand finale event.
The Kings and Queens of Africa with a red-carpet entrance will serve as the main attraction.It will showcase the work of emerging boutique designers, fashion student designers, international designers, musicians, runway models and performers from DC.
