We have been invited to the Kendall-Frost Marsh to sketch the King Tides. Sponsored by the San Diego Bird Alliance and Reserva Privada Antonio Perisky. Above is a video taken from the King Tides 2024 viewing at the same location last year.
We have the opportunity to be part of the first Binational California King Tides Event, happening simultaneously at Kendall-Frost Marsh (USA) and Estero de Punta Banda (Mexico)! Communities on both sides of the border are invited to document extreme high tides by taking photos and recording conditions throughout the day.
Enjoy birdwatching and plein-air painting as the marshes transform, an opportunity to observe, create, and contribute to cross-border coastal science., we will participate in the state-wide program to document the highest tides of the year via Survey123 (see below).
Forgive and note the early time. You are welcome to stay later, but Urban Sketchers will be there and finish throw down at 8:45 AM. They will have bird experts there who can help you name the birds that you see and draw.
Please note: The organizers of this event very much want artists to document the changing tide, starting at 7 am, so please do feel welcome to show up early to help document the tide and share your art. The King Tide is expected to peak at 8:22 AM at its highest height of 7.33 feet.

There is an entrance in the gate about halfway down from the trailer on the corner at 2055 Pacific Coast Dr. it will be open and the organizers will be setting up canopies, so you shouldn't miss it. We call this the PEP
Parking: There should be plenty of street parking along Pacific Beach drive or crown point drive
Setup can begin as early as 7am. There will be enough space for everyone along the edge of the PEP.
Our group will meet at 7 AM do throw down at 8:45 AM.
