Kindling the Sacred Flame

Rev. Alfred Silverstar, ordained minister, Woolston-Steen Theological Seminary graduate, and Weavers of the Web's chief sacred fire tender, leads this one-hour hands-on workshop in primitive fire-building for ritual and survival. Drawing on five years of managing outdoor sacred fires through Michigan weather and a background as a trained emergency professional with military and civil service, Alfred teaches participants how to read a site, select fuel, manage wind and weather, tend a fire through a long ritual, and extinguish it safely and completely — including basic burn treatment.
This workshop takes place at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 2 at Fenner Nature Center in Lansing, Michigan, just before the Weavers of the Web Beltaine Ritual (gathering at 4:00 PM, circle cast at 5:00 PM).
