KILLDEER TRIO & Laura Andrea Leguia

“The easiest word to describe Killdeer is jazz, but that only tells part of the story. There are also elements of fusion, jam band music and indie rock." - Colin Roberts
Inspired by their roots in Upstate NY, Killdeer Trio answers the constant invitation to explore the surrounding unknown. The band draws from their diverse musical experiences in experimental and mainstream music to create a sound that challenges expectations of genre and style.
The trio has opened for Joel Frahm, and collaborated with grammy-nominated violinist Sara Caswell. Individually the members have performed with a wide variety of artists: from jazz legends Stacy Dillard and Ray Vega to rock bands Palehound and Dazzling Killmen and multidisciplinary improvisation group Duo Extempore.
Underground is the culmination of years spent honing their collective approach into a distinct sound that is cohesive, yet sonically mercurial. The music ranges from deep grooves, singable melodies, and ambient explorations that are engaging to all contemporary music listeners.
Laura Andrea Leguía is a Peruvian saxophonist and composer known for her dynamic fusion of jazz, Afro-Peruvian, and world music. Her musical journey began at the National Conservatory of Lima, Peru, laying the groundwork for a prolific academic and artistic career. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of Southern California and a Master of Music in Jazz Composition from New York University.
A versatile artist, Laura has performed globally alongside renowned musicians such as Deepak Chopra, Maria Schneider, Ingrid Jensen, Eva Ayllón, and Arturo O’Farrill. She is currently a featured member of the Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet and the Elizabeth Woodbury Kasius HEARD World Music Band.
