About this Event

Butterflies add to the interest of our spring and summers. Even in London. But like many beneficial insects they are under pressure from changing environments. So how have butterflies fared in London?

‘The Butterflies of London’ describes the butterflies that can be seen locally here in London. The maps show how the distribution of butterflies has changed in London since the first mapped survey of the early 1980s.

There have been large changes. A few species have been lost from London. But the surprise is that large areas of London have gained butterflies that were previously absent. This book is also about where to see butterflies and how to encourage them in our neighbourhoods.
