We have a very exciting workshop coming up – and this time, it’s for the little ones! Join us Tuesday, December 27th from 1-3pm for a kid’s art and planting workshop, during which local artist Shalandrea Houchen will guide the budding artists through painting their own flower pots and then planting their baby seedling, inspiring them through art, ecology, and caring for a living object! This is a free community event and all are welcome.
With the kids out of school and all those chilly days to fill, this is a great time to bring in the children for some fun while you sit and read by our fountain or relax with a cup of coffee or lunch over in Oasis Café. We ask that you stay on the premises (we are not able to provide day care-level of supervision) but you don’t need to be hands on if you don’t want to.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Shalandrea "Shay" Houchen, Founder n Art Director of What's Ya Vibe?
Shalandrea Renee Houchen is an LA-born NYC-raised performative artist that uses everyday objects like black hair, it's accessories, and vibrant media to express her love, hate, fear, and
confidence. Through musical theater she lets her spirit flow to create works (paintings, sculptures, installations etc.) meant to revive, bring humor, and show where we are in our society.
She uses her feet, hands, and objects to create beats and vibrations on her work that jump out of the canvas or the ceiling to create experiences. With each piece being story-based, Shalandrea makes narratives using provocative bursts of energy along with tranquil brush strokes.
After creating and producing the NY Times-mentioned What's Ya Zodiac? - a twelve room zodiac art playground - Shalandrea now uses elements of astrology in her work highlighting our
differences and similarities in the world through elements like water and fire. In honor of her mother, Yolanda Renee Thomas, she uses pearls. Pearls represent her connection to her divinity and ability to see beauty in all things that are deemed imperfect.
As a teaching artist she has worked with youth over 1,000 youth in Los Angeles and New York City. She creates curriculum based off wellness, self care, art therapy, and multicultural arts. As a youth advocate, she places mental health first, with an understanding of the healing powers of art.
